ENTERING THE GLOBAL SLEEP GUILD. This multichannel projection is an immersive experience into "THE GLOBAL SLEEP GUILD" where somewhere in the world, someone is dreaming. The projections are based on an experimental film made in 1974 by Merrill Aldighieri and Kathryn Karwat.
Simultaneous
dreaming around the world is the concept of the original film, and we will
advance that idea throughout the exhibit, evoking the poetry of dreams with
abstract animation and ambient soundscapes. Dioramas will feature the continents
of the world showing webcam views of night time vistas. The floor will have
projections of a compass, old maps of the world, antique spinning globes.
As visitors enter the space through a SLEEPWALKERS
tunnel,
they will be invited to improvise a sleepwwalker's movement. Their silhouettes
will be visible in the Gallery Space and shared online in real time.
Blank
dream journals will be available.
DREAMCHAMBER SOFAS for the installation >
Short films with soundtrack will be integrated into the loops projected on
the walls to include the original GLOBAL SLEEP GUILD and a recent film, never
publicly screened before, a historic first U.S. recording of the group NEW
ORDER, "DREAMS NEVER SLEEP" which is embellished with animations
based on paintings of L.S. LOWRY.
Interactive
response will be encouraged with questions...
Can you make your dreams come true?
Are waking dreams the tools of unconscious dreams?
Can dreams influence people around the world?
How do you move in your dreams?
Highlights to be presented on the closing of the exhibition.
